HomeSpeed Fast Start DSL Kit

Step 1: Prepare the House (See image 1)

Install a DSL Blocker on every telephone in your home (but see note below**). You must also install a DSL Blocker on any of the following:

  • Faxes and Answering Machines

  • Computers with Dial-up Modems

  • Telephony Devices for the Hearing Impaired

  • Any other items plugged into a phone jack

** Note:

If you have a second phone line...

You do not need to install DSL Blockers on your second phone line. They are only needed for phone lines carrying DSL.

If you run out of DSL Blockers...

Simply unplug any phones that do not have a Blocker installed.

If you need more help...

Refer to the Installation and Troubleshooting guide included in your kit.

Step 2: Prepare Your Computer

Ethernet/Network Card:

  • Be sure your Ethernet/Network Card is properly installed in your computer, with TCP/IP bounded to the card.

Check the Settings in "Network Neighborhood":

  1. Check the setting on your Ethernet/Network card so it is set to "Obtain IP Address Automatically." Also known as DHCP.
        a.  Right click on "Network Neighborhood
        b.  Click on "Properties"
        c.  On the "IP Address" Tab, under "The
             Following Network Components Are Installed,"
scroll down to your Card (TCP/IP), click to
             highlight, then click properties.
        d.  On the "IP Address" Tab, be sure the "Obtain
IP Address Automatically" is checked off. If
not, select the circle, click OK and close the
             card "Properties" window. Keep "Configuration"
             Window open.

  2. Check to see if you have "Client for Microsoft Networks" initialized.

  3. On the same "Configuration" Tab, under "Primary Net Logon," "Client for Microsoft Networks" should be checked. If it is not, click on the drop down arrow and select "Client for Microsoft Networks".

  4. Click OK

  5. Close Window

  6. Properly Shut Down Computer.

Be Sure Computer Is OFF Before Continuing!

Step 3: Connect the Modem (see image 2)

You are now ready to connect the modem into your computer, using the following procedure:

  1. Plug the Adapter into the phone outlet.

  2. Plug the DSL Modem into the Adapter. (If a phone is needed at this location, plug phone into the Adapter, as shown.)

  3. Plug the DSL Modem into the Ethernet/Network Card in the back of the computer.

  4. On the back of the modem you will find the power switch. Flip it to the ON position. The DSL "line light" should turn solid green within five (5) minutes of turning the modem on.

  5. Turn on your computer.

  6. If you are connecting directly into a Ethernet card, use the Green cross-over cable provided with the kit, plug out Ethernet from the MVL and directly into the card.

If all settings are correct and the "line light" came on, Congratulations! You have successfully self-installed your DSL and are ready to surf the web using your current browser.

If in the event this does not work and you have no access after following the Three (3) Steps, refer to your Installation Kit and Troubleshooting Guide included in this kit or call our toll-free support number: 888.425.7425
